WINTER DIARIES....

                                         PURANE GEET.......

As a final year B.D.S student awaiting the dreaded semester, joblessness is one disease, which I am sure, afflicts most of my classmates. I mean the term 'study leave' is truly ironic. In such a sad situation, when true boredom sets in, some take resort in watching the 'idiot box', a few others in sleeping (which I do agree is an excellent option) and a rarer few change to a different subject and keep studying. Though I generally spend most of my spare time reading books, this time I decided to something else that appeals to me.
Despite continued looks of annoyance from my mother ('Aiyoo, Perumaale, knock some sense into this girl and make her study), I turned on the ancient transistor, (for those of you'll wondering, yeah it still does work) and started scouting for old songs. It turned out to be one of the few better decisions that I have taken in ages.
From soft melodies like 'Teri aankhon ke siva duniya me rakha kya hai' sung by Rafi to the craziness personifying 'Ek chatura naar' sung by Kishore, each one of these songs infused a totally new kind of energy within me. I felt that I had landed into a whole new life. The beautiful Hindi lyrics that were used in those days, are sadly no longer a part of the music industry that is currently present...
I cried listening to 'Chalo ek baar phirse ajnabee ban jaaye hum dono' and 'Pucho na kaise maine rain bitayi' and smiled listening to 'Kisi ki muskurahaton' and 'Pyaar hume kis mod pe le aaya'. I could state a whole lot more, which really made my day and were successful in extracting all the negativity within me.
Many of you'll, I am sure, will find this post boring. Many of you'll must really be into the existing music scenario in our country. By that, I strictly mean Bollywood and not revolutionary concepts like 'Coke Studio'. Well, to each his own. But I am sure no matter what, the depth of feeling, that you get from listening to the 'precious oldies' can never be replicated.'Old is gold' is one of the few clichés with which I actually agree. I'd like to finish this by stating a few lines from one of my innumerable favorite songs....
           Zindagi, kaisi hai paheli haye,
Kabhi toh hasaaye, kabhi yeh rulaaye...

                                   Optimism-A diminishing quality?

The first post is always scary... I mean for a non-blogger like me, who was happily content in expressing her views through the medium of paper, it is indeed scary...So until this morning, I never had the intention of creating a blog. But a dear friend of mine suggested (forced would be more appropriate) that I should, and here I am, with little idea as to what I'm really doing.
Just yesterday, as I was browsing through the pages of an acclaimed newspaper, I read an interesting article by a journalist expressing skepticism regarding Prime Minister Modi's 'Clean India' campaign. Then I wondered, have we all become so jaded that we can't appreciate even the few good initiatives that are taken by our government? Agreed, politics in India can be compared to a dirty swamp filled with ogres and trolls, but how is our attitude going to help the existing senario?
It is very easy to be a hypocrite, but it's difficult to acknowledge the truth. Which is, our thoughts and our beliefs too play a vital role in shaping the whole outlook about our country.. We need to learn to appreciate all that we have, rather than focus on all that we don't. Corruption won't be rooted out of India in a matter of a few years, its a stark reality which we need to accept and try to progressively deal with it, than attacking it all at once..
It is very sad to see that movies like 'Slumdog Millionaire' go on to win Oscars, while movies like 'Swades' are declared a flop. It shows that a large number of people are willing to look at the negative aspects of our country rather than ackowledging the positives.. Why have we become like this?
If we do not believe in our nation, then it's downright stupid to expect the rest of the world to do that.
We have a lot of problems. Big deal. Maybe things won't change. Big deal. But with cynicism in our minds, we lose the fight even before it starts. I'm not suggesting that we need to do big changes. A simple act as picking up a broom would suffice....
